The big moment is here... and brace for disappointment. Not in the brilliant writing of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, this season is HILARIOUS.
What's not hilarious however, is that this DVD IN FACT has the CENSORED VERSION ONLY of Episode "201", the infamous (I'd better be careful here...) M******* episode. If you didn't know, episode "201" was censored heavily on its original broadcast on Comedy Central due to receiving terrorist threats from wannabe terrorists WHO LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES (remember, the land of free speech?). These guys are complete fugazi terrorists, no danger at all, just wannabes. In fact, all that this "terrorist" group does is make racist and bigoted cartoons and skits of their own (MUCH more offensive than South Park, check it out on the net... I won't provide the link, b/c the cartoons and skits are AWFUL, and I don't think Amazon lets you print links anyhow.) The DVD version of the episode is proceeded by a message that says, "This episode appears exactly as it did on Comedy Central's original broadcast." Oh, how my heart sank. Not only is it censored, but you can't even get any insight into the censored closing statements, because if you listen to the commentary from Trey and Matt, they have been SCARED by Comedy Central into not even talking about the controversy (Trey admits it on the commentary), due to the fact that they would "probably just take it off anyways," Trey says. That's really what the commentary track consists of: Trey and Matt talking about how they can't talk about the censorship. The only good part of the commentary is the great joke the guys pull at the end of it... I don't want to spoil it for anyone though, because I thought it was a great satiric jab at the situation.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are absolute geniuses and deserved to be hailed as comedic heroes for tackling tough and important issues, all the while making them funny as heck. I love every episode, and OH how I wanted to see what is said in those censored closing statements in episode "201". But, there is no insight provided whatsoever, other than the original statement that was posted by the guys on their website the day after the show aired, censored. It is clear from this statement that Matt and Trey had absolutely nothing to do with the censorship, but I think we're all smart enough to figure that out. If the DVD was going to be censored, not only would some advance warning have been nice (before I spent $35 on this), but I wanted MORE of an explanation, AT LEAST, if I can't EVER find out what is being said in this highly controversial episode due to Comedy Central's lack of guts. In short, nothing about the DVD release of "201" is satisfying on any level.
Also, I feel it should be noted that the special features are not that great. The commentary tracks are cool (ya know, for the most part), but other than that you get 6 minutes of deleted scenes, and half of those are not fully animated. They are still in still-frame sketch form with the voices overlapping. They did include a bonus episode from Season 13, "The Coon", on the same disc as the new "Coon" trilogy, but that's all you get.
I abhor myself for rating a South Park product this poorly, and if you haven't seen the season, by all means, check it out because it's absolutely hilarious; one of the best seasons in a while. If you are on the fence about buying it due to the censorship, I would actually suggest that you not buy it. All the episodes are available to watch for free on South Park's home page (except for "200" and "201", which are only available on the DVD, with "201" censored [no changes from the original broadcast.]). Don't give Comedy Central a bunch of money for being scared rabbits and treating the audience like children. MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS IS COMEDY CENTRAL'S FAULT. While Matt and Trey can keep their heads up due to doing nothing wrong, COMEDY CENTRAL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES! For shame!
Very disappointed. I will still support South Park, but no other programs on Comedy Central. This is unacceptable. 4.5 stars for the season, 0 stars for the release = 2.25 stars, round down to 2. Terrible man, just terribly disappointing.

The End of Free Speech? May 03, 2011

VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS. DO NOT SUPPORT COMEDY CENTRAL'S CENSORING OF THIS DVD.
As one of the many, many South Park fans here on Earth, I appreciate not only the clever humor, but most especially the social commentary. Usually this valuable and timely satire was sandwiched between enough laughter that it was at least "Tolerated" by viewers seeking only mere entertainment.
The fact that South Park is a prime-time animated show on a cable network helped to keep it "Under the radar" of all but the most extreme of those who consider themselves to be our "Moral Police". The phenomenon that many of the most vocal opponants of the show had not actually SEEN the show helped to dismiss the critics and place their criticisms on the fringe. To most of the "General Public" that has never seen an episode of South Park, the show was considered to be nothing more than a string of flatulence jokes.
Unfortunately, the days of hiding "Under the Radar" have ended. The world turned their attention to South Park, Colorado, and Comedy Central proved themselves to be spineless and short-sighted.
South Park's initial inspiration was Archie Bunker from "All in the Family", a character who Matt & Trey absolutely adored but agreed could never appear on today's P.C. television programs. Their idea was to create that same freedom of humor in a format that could escape comparisons to traditional television comedies. They settled on animation for this format, and so was born Eric Cartmsn, one of the most despicable characters to ever appear on television (and deliberately so). Matt and Trey felt that the animated format would allow them to be ignored by the critics and dismissed as frivolous (and thus harmless). This plan worked right up until Season 14.
As you probably know, in response to some supposedly Islam-based criticisms, Comedy Central chose to CENSOR Episode 201 when it was broadcast on television. Comedy Central then decided to never broadcast the episode again.
Censorship on TV is not new, and South Park has had to endure censorship before. Almost every episode of the show contains at least one utterance of some profanity or other. When uttered, we TV viewers instead hears a "BEEP". This was tolerated because we, the fans, knew that these (few and specific) words were forbidden on ALL regular TV broadcasts. We also knew that when the episodes were collected for purchase, they would appear in their original unrated format. Up until Season 14, we were correct.
Perhaps you are one of those who think you know better than other people, and that censorship is no big deal. If so, I can only hope that one day YOU experience the loss of your freedoms in a manner that will open your eyes. If you feel that the fight against censorship is not important, you are part of the problem. One day you will find your rights infringed upon as well.
Free speech is a right, not a privilage, and it is a right that many people of other countries DO NOT enjoy. How shameful that Comedy Central is so willing to deny that right to the creators of the biggest Cash-Cow thier network ever had.
Currently, Matt and Trey are making STUPIDLY HUGE MOUNTAINS OF CASH with thier Broadway Hit "The Book of Mormon", which coincidently is what Trey ALWAYS WANTED TO BE DOING. South Park has started their 15th Season, which is the final season of Matt & Trey's contract. They were already wealthy enough to retire BEFORE "The Book of Mormon", and now they are doing so well that could donate the Comedy Central money to charity and never miss it! Personally, as much as I would miss South Park, I hope Matt & Trey punish Comedy Central for this by pulling the plug after season 15 and telling them exactly why they destroyed their most profitable show.
So, Comedy Central, when you lose Matt & Trey after this season and are left with nothing but South Park Re-Runs, how do you think it will affect your Ad Revenues? As I said before, what a spineless, cowardly and SHORT-SIGHTED decision on Comedy Central's part.

I was so looking forward to this set. In all other season DVD sets, the episodes have been totally uncut and uncensored, until now. Episode 201 is all censored up like it was during the original broadcast on Comedy central. It really sucks that I cannot get my money back since I opened the box (which said nothing about 201 being censored)
This is not Matt and Trey's fault. They have the guts rip on anyone and anything. Comedy Central needs to grow a set of balls. South Park has ripped on just about every major religion in the world and Comedy Central allowed the broadcasting of those episodes. But along comes Islam and Comedy Central censors everything about it.
COMEDY CENTRAL! QUIT BEING THE COWARDS YOUR ARE AND RELEASE THE UNCUT UNCENSORED VERSION OF EPISODE 201!!!!

The censorship of two episodes dealing with islam shows just how hypocritical comedy central / viacom is. They have no issues making fun of catholics and christians in general or making fun of jews. But when it comes to muslims? Viacom / Comedy Central will not get a further dime from me until these episodes are released UNCENSORED. I truly hope Matt and Trey end south park after season 15 - the damage that Viacom / Comedy Central could do to it is unimaginable.

South Park has become like the Simpsons in that it's aired so long the fanbase is split. Those who love it and those who think it is old, stale and should be put down. I can't speak to how I feel about the Simpsons, that's a different issue, but as far as South Park all I can say is I'm still laughing. I don't hold South Park up to the same criteria as other shows, it's an entity all its own where the point has always been to tune in and have some laughs at current issues with our four favorite foul mouthed fourth graders. To me if South Park still makes me laugh then it's still a great show.
The show has changed its style many times over the years and this season represents another change, I really liked the pace and style of the episodes this season. It starts a little slow, in my opinion, but gears up by "You Have 0 Friends" and only gets better from there. This season contains two fan loved multi-part episodes and one of them is the most controversial episode the show has done in recent years. Was it 'Classic' South Park? Too soon to tell, but certainly great South Park this year.
This 14th season contains the following 14 episodes:
Sexual Healing - The country searches for an explanation for all the recent famous people cheating or becoming supposed "sex addicts", in the process two of the boys from South Park are revealed as sex addicts themselves. [A great episode in that it doesn't make fun of the rich men cheating as much as it makes fun of the people who keep trying to dissect why they do it]
The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs - Reading a banned book in class inspires the boys to write their own filthy book, one that mentions Sarah Jessica Parker 465 times, sick! When they are caught and blame it on Butters he becomes a national bestseller until his next book gets a famous celebrity killed. [Pokes fun at a lot of things, possibly even the idea that Matt and Trey feel people find deeper meaning in their writing than they intend, among other things such as media blaming art for the actions of clearly insane people]
Medicinal Fried Chicken - Randy radiates his balls in order to be prescribed medicinal marijuana. Meanwhile Cartmen essentially lives the life of Tony Montana, Scarface, only with fried chicken and gravy rather than cocaine. [Lots of funny visuals if a little weak on the poignant social commentary]
You Have 0 Friends - Kyle "friends" a loser kid with no friends on facebook when he feels bad for him but soon he becomes an outcast himself. Stan gets tired of facebook and wants to delete his profile but there's one problem, it won't let him. [If Social Network "brilliantly" tells the story of how facebook started, this episode brilliantly portrays what it has become and certainly what it will turn into if we don't stop it now!]
200 & 201 (CENSORED VERSION ONLY) - After seeing Tom Cruise working at a fudge packing plant the boys piss him off and 200 celebrities come back to get their revenge on the town of South Park. Things escalate when the ginger kids return and when we may finally find out...who is Eric Cartmen's father?
[The episode becomes centered on whether or not they can show ********. Nice to have all the call backs, unfortunately the DVD/Blu-ray version is censored like the broadcast version was. Fairly ridiculous on Comedy Central's part but I want to own the season regardless and am not sure why people are getting up in arms. Still, we should be able to see ******** if we want to see ********!]
Crippled Summer - Jimmy, Timmy and Nathan???(the drug dealer from Up the Down Steroid) all go to 'special' summer camp and pay homage to classic cartoons as Nathan tries to foil Jimmy and the cooler kids. Meanwhile Towelie gets a long awaited Intervention. [All I have to say is hahahaha, laughed my ass off at both stories]
Poor and Stupid - Cartmen gets Butters to help him become a NASCAR driver. The title sums up the main repetitive joke of the episode but it's hilarious to watch unfold. [Laughed my ass off again]
It's a Jersey Thing - Jersey starts to spread across America and reaches South Park causing Kyle (or Kylie B.) to face some inner demons he didn't know about his mother or himself.
Insheeption - A trip into Mr. Mackay's twisted childhood mind allows Matt and Trey to mock the confusion of Inception and the constant music played throughout the movie to make dialogue seem more intense. I loved the movie but love this episode even more.
Coon 2: Hindsight (1), Mysterion Rises (2), Coon Vs. Coon and Friends (3) - In the three parter South Park serves up a sequel of sorts to the episode "The Coon". Now all the kids have super hero alter egos and a new hero named Captain Hindsight shows up on the scene mocking all the good people have brought to the world lately by pointing out what should've been done rather than actually doing something about it now. In part two Mysterion is finally revealed and explored and in part three we get some new insight into one of our favorite characters.
Creme Fraiche - Randy become addicted to the cooking channel and thinks he should be a chef despite not being able to cook. With Randy busy Sharon finds herself a new toy that brings her all the pleasure a man can bring, a shake weight. [hahaha, the visual of that ridiculous shake weight. A great episode, silly, fun and makes good points, especially with how Randy gets turned on by the food network]
A great season by my standards but everyone will have to judge for themselves. The three-parter is fun and feels more like classic South Park silliness to me but it does seem like they wanted to do a standalone Coon 2 episode that gradually turned into a three parter when they couldn't wrap it up. For once in a long time though it does add a new level to one of the characters and it has some good laughs. Not as rewatchable as the rest though.
All episodes will contain the usual mini-commentaries by Matt and Trey which are always effeciently informative, if not a little too short for real fans.
There is also a deleted scene from "You Have 0 Friends" starring Cartmen and the season 13 episode "The Coon" is included (despite fans who buy this set already likely owning the previous one).
The Blu-ray releases for South Park have looked really sharp and I personally don't mind paying a little extra but for those who don't focus on vibrancy of the color and sharpness of picture just buy the DVD, the jokes will still be just as funny and you'll save a few bucks.
So that's season fourteen, fans enjoy (unless you can't get over the one censored episode). Those who are no longer fans try to let those of us still laughing enjoy (you don't have to acknowledge the new seasons just as I don't acknowledge most seasons of the Simpsons), those who never were fans why the hell are you reading this? As far as season 15, two words - Can't Wait.
