Just what you'd expected Aug 25, 2007
By Brian Reaves The Amazing Johnathan is a hilarious guy. He's one of the top comedy magicians in the world today, and this special highlights why. Keep in mind this isn't for everyone though. One of his trademarks is the ability to find creative ways to give someone the finger, and he does so many times throughout.
While this can't be described as family entertainment by any means, it IS a pretty funny way to spend an hour. His original Comedy Central Presents appearance is included here and though there are a few similar moments, there's enough new stuff to make it worth watching.
I would have liked to have seen this cleaned up a bit so everyone could enjoy it, but at least it's out there. This show is almost exactly what aired on CC earlier this year. The "Uncensored" parts are mostly concerning not blurring out the finger and a couple of different props that weren't seen on the special.
Not recommended for the family, but if you know what you're getting into it's funny. A little gross sometimes (the razor blade trick, for instance), but overall good.

It's Amazing Sep 11, 2007
By Craig Hower I haven't seen anything that the Amazing Johnathan (with the adorable Tanya) hasn't done that hasn't failed to entertain. Not just entertain but make me and mine flat out laugh. Even if viewers have seen some of this before, I for one enjoy seeing it over and over again. Why buy the DVD if it weren't something you'd want to see again and again?
I have friends who will be getting it for Christmas and they'll love me for it...

Yummy Yummy Razor Blades. Awesome. Sep 11, 2007

Ok, first off:
YES, there is an element of rehash in this special. Is this a bad thing? Not really. The majority of the "recycled" elements occur during the volunteer segment which I'm perfectly okay with since the mark's reactions become a key part of the segment. The other reason I can see for material getting reused is that Comedy Central has never put Amazing Jonathan out of DVD before (with the exception of some sampler disc I saw at FYE).
The special itself is fantastic. A lot of classic AJ moments and a bunch of random (and I mean RANDOM) appearances by Psychic Tanya, who serves as something of a pythonesque segue character in this show (complimentary!!!!!!). There's even a "REAL" Magic Trick: Copperfield is put to SHAME!
The only real complaint I have (and it's minor, really) is with the DVD itself. Unlike some of their other releases, Comedy Central did not include a true uncensored version of the special. Instead, they packed the deleted scenes into a special features menu. It would have been awesome to see this special uninterrupted (particularly for the extended messing with John) but at least they are there.
So is this DVD for you? Let me ask: Do you think you could be entertained by killing "pigeons", hanging a dead rabbit, Drinking Windex & Drano, eating Razor blades, fire, clowns, inspiring near psychotic paranoia in your handpicked assistant, a semi-psychotic psudeo-psychic and a somewhat clumsy hot nurse? I think it's friggin' hysterical. This DVD is for me.

Maam, do you like birds? Jun 24, 2010
By Joseph Drake I love this guy. His jokes and prop comedy is grotesque, but great! I originally saw him on the worlds greatest magicians when I was really young, a bit later I saw his comedy central bit, then I was excited to hear about this airing on comedy central. This DVD includes all of his previously aired performances in the bonus features.

Amazing Indeed! Feb 11, 2009
By Guy Funluver Sick, twisted and hysterically funny! Fans of Jeff Dunham will enjoy Johnathon. The limited amount of actual "magic" is actually pretty good, but this is truly a comedy act. A little bit of shocking, comedic gore and some rough language should warn the kids off, but nothing too intense for adults. Be sure to check out the bonus materials. You'll find some of the bits in the regular video duplicated (from other "Johnathan" live performances), but there are some very good added bits as well.
